You cannot think your way into a different relationship with your body. You have to act your way there.
A 30-minute training on what actually changes the brain, and why it isn’t a mantra, an affirmation, or a mirror exercise.
The Shit Talk Jar started as something I developed for myself, out of necessity. After I learned that the things I said about my own body out of self protection, were leaking into the rooms I worked in, and into the bodies of the humans I was supposed to be helping, I knew something needed to change. For my clients. And for me.
So I grabbed a jar. A literal one. A dollar every time I spoke unkindly about my body. It sounds almost too simple to work. It is simple. It also works, and there’s a real reason why, rooted in how the brain actually builds and rewires habitual patterns. I’ll walk you through it.
This is not a positivity intervention. You will not leave this training believing your body is fab necessarily, and that is not the goal. You’ll leave with a mechanism, something to do in the three seconds after the thought arrives, which is the only window where anything actually changes.
Who This Is For
This was built for a mixed room, on purpose:
- People actively doing their own body image or eating disorder recovery work
- Clinicians and practitioners who want a concrete tool to offer clients, and a more honest reckoning with their own body talk in the room
- Anyone who has noticed their own body shame leaking into the people around them and wants it to stop
You don’t need a clinical background to use this. You don’t need to already believe your body is fine. You just need to be willing to notice.
What This Isn’t
This isn’t toxic positivity. This isn’t a gratitude list. This isn’t “just think happy thoughts about your thighs.” If that worked, none of us would need a training for it.
This also isn’t a fix for the world your body has to exist inside of. It doesn’t undo thin privilege, or fix medical bias, or make healthism less loud. It was never built to do that. What it does is give you something that’s yours, inside your own nervous system, regardless of what the world is doing that day.
I’m a registered dietitian with eighteen-plus years of specialized eating disorder and body image healing work. I developed this practice for myself first - which means I can tell you exactly what it costs, exactly where it gets hard, and exactly why it’s still worth doing anyway.
This is not an affirmation project. It is so much more. I’m going to give you a pause, a dollar, and a different choice, and let the repetition do what no amount of forced positive thinking ever could.
You already know what your shit talk sounds like. The only question is whether you’re ready to start catching it.
